Majlis Pusat’s Profile
Majlis Pusat Pertubuhan-Pertubuhan Budaya Melayu Singapura (Central Council of Malay Cultural Organisations Singapore) or Majlis Pusat- MP in short, was established on 12 April 1969. This was two years after the Malay leaders had discussed for its establishment. 31 affiliates gave their blessings to the establishment of MP. At that time, MP slowly became the unofficial voice for the Malay community. Feedbacks on different issues and basis were forwarded to the government. At the same time, MP played a pivotal role in bringing the Malays into the national wave. This also raised the confidence of the Malays for the future after the separation from Malaysia.
Majlis Pusat’s thrust today
Majlis Pusat will focus on these three areas:
· Culture Forwarder – in line with the call to make Singapore an Arts Renaissance City and the ever-changing outlook that are being the concern of the Malays.
· To develop and enhance the Malay culture & arts.
· To ensure that Malay culture and traditions are preserved and perpetuated.
Majlis Pusat’s Services
Majlis Pusat collaborated with a couple of government ministries namely Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports; Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts. Majlis Pusat also worked hand-in-hand with the Singapore Tourism Board, People’s Association, the Community Development Councils, National Heritage Board, National Library Board, National Youth Council, National Arts Council, SMRTC and SingPost on specific projects.
Affiliates
Majlis Pusat is affiliated to the People’s Association, National Council of Social Services and Singapore Council of Women’s Organisation and Mendaki. Presently, it has 34 Malay/Muslim organisations under its umbrella in various fields. They come from various backgrounds, ie., culture and the arts, literally, youth, sports and community services.

What are Majlis Pusat’s ideals for the 21st century? Majlis Pusat needs to be current and be in sync with our nation’s ever-changing environment. As the nation develop and progress, the Malay lifestyle of the Malay community be uplifted.
